There is nothing that I enjoy more than talking to people about God’s Word and encouraging them in their walk of faith. |
SPEAKING
If someone had suggested to me even five years ago that speaking to people about God’s Word would soon become one of the greatest joys and passions of my life, quite honestly I would have thought they were crazy. You need to understand that historically I’ve always favored the option of eating shards of glass to anything that remotely resembled public speaking. In fact, when I first started teaching Bible studies in my home church, I used to warn the front row in only a half-joking fashion that I was a live risk to throw up on them. But God moves us where He wants us to be, often in spite of ourselves, and consequently today there is nothing that I enjoy more than talking to people about God’s Word and encouraging them in their walk of faith.

COST
One of the questions that always comes up in regard to speakers is that of cost. In fact, speaker cost is often a prohibiting factor in retreats, workshops, and other events that churches and other faith based organizations plan. If you’ve ever organized an event, you know this. My approach to speaker fees is not exactly “normal,” so in order for you to understand what may be perceived as a naïve approach to fees, I need to take you back a few years.
In September of 2001, I saw one of my favorite Christian speakers in person for the first time. One comment that she made just in passing has stuck with me and drives my view. She said that she decided early on in her ministry that she would never charge for her speaking services because she always wanted to know that she was going where God wanted her to go and saying what God wanted her to say, and she didn’t want to worry about being swayed by the issue of money. Mind you I heard this long before I ever had any intention of speaking, but it so resonated with me, that I have never forgotten it.
So here’s how the money side works. I do not charge for any speaking engagements. If an organization feels led to give an honoraria, I will accept it, but I in no way expect it. The way I view it, I work for God, and I’ll trust Him to pay the bills that arise. Obviously, if there is substantial travel involved, I need the organization to get me there and cover lodging, but other than that, the cost is between you and God. Since I live in the Chicago area with a major airport, I can usually find pretty good rates almost anywhere in the country given a little notice, so that helps, too, if cost is an issue at your church as it is nearly everywhere.

TOPICS
Unlike some speakers who address only a few specific topics, I will address any topic that God’s Book addresses. I love teaching from God’s Word while encouraging people to learn to read and study the Bible for themselves.

TYPES OF EVENTS
CHURCH GROUPS / CONFERENCES
Big, small; weekend, weekday, weeknight; women, men, teens; Illinois, California. Wherever and whenever God wants me.
BIBLE STUDIES
Kicking off a Bible study? Need a guest speaker? I’m happy to drop by and help out.
RETREATS
I can book one per quarter. Why not more? Check out the About Us page and you’ll see photos of the reasons.
MOPS
With kids five years apart, I was the card-carrying mother of a preschooler for 11 sometimes long years. I’ve spoken to numerous MOPs groups from Chicago to Wisconsin and lots of cities in between. While I love teaching the Word, I understand the MOPs philosophy that you don’t bang young moms over the head with the Bible the minute they walk in the door. I’ll meet your group where they are with simple, gentle, and applicable truth from God’s Word.
PRECEPT INTRODUCTION TO INDUCTIVE BIBLE STUDY SEMINAR
In addition to my general speaking, I am also a Seminar Leader for Precept Ministries International and am available to present a one-hour Introduction to Inductive Bible Study Seminar. It is a concise and interactive way to introduce people to the basic tools of inductive Bible study. It is also a great week one class if you are beginning any of the studies by Precept Ministries.

As mentioned earlier, I limit myself to one retreat booking per quarter as my kids are still at home and am already booked in that department for the third and fourth quarters of 2007, but would love to talk to you about 2008.
