Every gathering and experience is planned with student safety as the first condition. Deep and Wide Foundation runs programs for students in grades 9–12.
Student safety
Designated safeguarding lead
Each program names a safeguarding lead who is responsible for student welfare and is the first point of contact for any concern. The name and contact details are given to families before the program begins.
Adult screening and training
All adults who work with students complete a background check, a reference check and child-safety training before they take part. Volunteers serve under the direction of a trained program lead and are never left alone with a single student.
Supervision on site
Supervision ratios are set for each experience according to the age of the students, the setting and the activities, and are shared with families in the information packet.
Reporting a concern
Students, families and partners can report a concern independently to the safeguarding lead or the Executive Director, or to a designated board member. Reports are documented and acted on. Where the law requires, concerns are reported to the appropriate authorities.
Emergencies
Each experience has an emergency plan, including local medical contacts and travel insurance arrangements, which are explained in the information packet. Families provide health and emergency information before departure.
Communication
Staff and volunteers communicate with students through program channels that parents can see, not through private messages.
